Rafael Jódar has secured his place in the round of 16 at the 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters following a resilient performance against Jiri Lehecka. The 20-year-old Spaniard battled for over two hours to overcome his opponent, eventually prevailing with a scoreline of 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.

This victory marks Jódar’s 40th win of the season, a significant milestone that echoes the early-career success achieved by Novak Djokovic in 2007. With a current record of 40 wins and 16 losses, the young talent now sits in 11th position in the Race to Turin, becoming one of only eight players to reach the 40-win threshold during the 2026 campaign.

Jódar’s progression in Shanghai follows a previous comeback victory against Thiago Agustín Tirante, where he similarly rallied from a set down to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. His ability to recover from difficult positions has become a hallmark of his current form.

Looking ahead, the Spaniard is set to face either Arthur Fils or Botic van de Zandschulp in the next round. Despite the growing speculation regarding his potential qualification for the ATP Finals, Jódar has emphasized that his current focus remains strictly on preparing for his upcoming match rather than the broader tournament standings.
