RMP Challenges Kerala Government Stance in CMRL-Exalogic Payoff Case

The RMP has criticized the Kerala government's legal stance in the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case, arguing it undermines the state's anti-corruption position.

The Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), a key outside ally of the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala, has formally expressed its opposition to the state government’s legal position regarding the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case. The ongoing controversy involves serious allegations against Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and her husband, CPI(M) MLA P.A. Mohamed Riyas.

Vadakara MLA and RMP leader K.K. Rema stated via social media that the government’s current approach in the Kerala High Court effectively weakens its own declared anti-corruption platform. While the government initially moved to establish a special investigation team to review evidence provided by the Enforcement Directorate, Rema argued that its subsequent arguments before a Division Bench—filed in response to an appeal by Vijayan—were politically inconsistent.

The RMP leadership further alleged that the Advocate General’s conduct in court appeared to support the arguments of the accused while dismissing the concerns of the complainant, K.M. Shajahan. State secretary N. Venu remarked that this strategy disregards the public mandate that brought the UDF to power, which was largely driven by voter sentiment against the alleged financial misconduct of the CPI(M) leadership.

The High Court had previously ordered the registration of a case and an investigation by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, leading to the filing of two FIRs. Despite this, the RMP maintains that the continued presence of a leader facing such severe allegations—including claims of monthly payments, bribes, and hawala transactions—damages the moral standing of democratic politics in the region.

This marks the first instance of the RMP openly dissenting from the government’s legal strategy. The party, which holds significant influence in the Kozhikode district, has called for opposition groups to take decisive steps to restore credibility, emphasizing that the issue transcends internal political appointments and strikes at the heart of political integrity.
