Binance announced that a major security incident has resulted in unauthorized withdrawals estimated to have a financial impact of about $6.3 billion. The exchange said the initial investigation points to an attacker who gained access through a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer, enabling illicit withdrawal transactions.

Further analysis uncovered additional breach points, though the company has not confirmed their locations. Binance stated the attack was complex and that it is coordinating with law‑enforcement agencies to resolve the situation.

In response, Binance temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while conducting security checks. The company has frozen approximately $3 billion in affected assets on the blockchain and will publish a detailed technical post‑mortem once the investigation is complete.

Binance has committed to covering all losses from its SAFU fund and its own reserves, assuring users that their funds remain safe. An updated Proof of Reserves will be released after remediation is finished.

The exchange continues to gather facts and will provide further updates as they become available. The incident remains under investigation, with Binance working to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
