Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls for a broad coalition government under his leadership following an inconclusive parliamentary election.

Following the recent parliamentary elections held on Tuesday of last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally announced his intention to form a broad coalition government under his leadership. In a statement released through his Likud party via the messaging application Telegram on Monday, the Prime Minister emphasized that he aims to build an administration incorporating his current political partners alongside any faction willing to join that does not support terrorism.

Netanyahu explicitly rejected the prospect of relying on Arab-Israeli factions, stating that the public in Israel has no desire for an administration dependent on the Raam and Joint List parties. Furthermore, the head of government accused both political groups of endorsing terrorism and disputing the legitimacy of the Jewish state, setting clear boundaries for potential coalition talks in Jerusalem.

The parliamentary election has resulted in a complex and challenging path toward government formation in the country. The right-wing religious bloc led by the incumbent Prime Minister secured fifty-three seats in the 120-seat unicameral parliament, known as the Knesset, falling short of the sixty-one seats required for a parliamentary majority.

Meanwhile, the opposition alliance headed by Eisenkot achieved forty-eight seats in the legislative contest. The political landscape is further complicated by the performance of the Israeli-Arab lists, which captured a record-breaking nineteen seats combined, significantly outperforming initial expectations and positioning themselves as potential kingmakers in the ongoing political deadlock.
