On 24 October 2026, the National School of Public Health (ENSAP) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) announced the launch of a new learning path on the Peru node of the Virtual Health Campus (CVSP). The initiative aims to boost the health system’s capacity to prevent, detect and respond to the climate‑related risks associated with the forthcoming El Niño event.
The unveiling took place during a meeting held on 1 October in ENSAP’s auditorium. The session highlighted a suite of courses that cover the full spectrum of preparedness: from risk‑management and service readiness to immunisation, epidemiological surveillance, emergency management, continuity of care, risk communication, disease control, protection of vulnerable groups, mental health, and water‑sanitation hygiene.
Dr Edy Vera, director of ENSAP, opened the catalogue, while Dr Gustavo Mery, PAHO’s representative in Peru, confirmed the organisation’s technical support. Dr Carlos Alberto Espinoza, deputy minister of Health Benefits, delivered the official launch message, underscoring the joint commitment of national and regional authorities.
All courses are free and open‑access. They are intended for health professionals and managers across the country, including staff from MINSA, regional governments, EsSalud, the armed forces’ health services, the national police, academic institutions and professional associations.
By offering these self‑paced modules, PAHO and ENSAP reaffirm their dedication to a coordinated effort that strengthens the health sector’s readiness for climate emergencies and disasters.
Health workers and interested parties can view the full catalogue and enrol through the Peru node of the Virtual Health Campus at https://campus.paho.org/peru/.
